U15 G Mansfield 2018 V3

Juniors are boys and girls from school year 4 to school year 11. Below is an overview of the activities and training groups that are available to junior members of WADAC.

School years 4-6 (Under 11), school years 7-8 (Under 13) & school years 9-10 (Under 15) - Sportshall.

Sportshall runs on Tuesday evenings from September-April in indoor facilities and is a great introduction to all aspects of athletics as it includes coaching in running, jumping, throwing and agility skills. Its big advantage is that it provides indoor training during the cold winter months. Competition is provided through the Hampshire Sportshall League & open "Grand Prix" meetings.

School years 4 & 5 - The U11s Academy

The U11s Academy aims to introduce the children to running, jumping and throwing. The groups take place on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

School years 5 - 11 - Cross-Country & Distance-Running

Junior athletes who are interested in long- and middle-distance running and are committed to competing in cross country competitions during the winter, can attend specialised distance-running training groups. These take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

School years 6 - 11 - Track & Field

Junior athletes can compete in most of the standard athletics events in a number of different leagues and competitions in both the winter and summer. There are various training groups on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, some offering training across several disciplines and others focused on single events or activities, e.g. sprints only or throws only or jumps only.

The Coaches

They are fully qualified coaches, having completed the necessary courses provided by England Athletics. The sessions are also supported by parent volunteers, who make a vital contribution in ensuring that we can take a large pool of athletes. Read more about our coaches.

Our Ethos

We want athletes to enjoy their training and to try their best at all times. We expect them to treat their coaches and each other with courtesy and respect. We seek to encourage good training habits and high standards of behaviour. We are a competitive club and expect members to compete in at least 5 meetings each year.
