Sportshall Athletics is an enjoyable and developmental part of the WADAC Junior athletics program.
Sportshall training takes place on Tuesday evenings from September until Easter at Kings School Sports Hall between 6.30-8.00 pm. From April 2019 onwards, the Sportshall training group year 4s and year 5s have also trained outdoors at Bar End during the summer months. All Sportshall training has proved very popular, and there's often a short waiting-list in place for those who wish to join.
The training covers:
- Running (1 Lap - 6 Lap races)
- Throwing (Chest Push : Soft Javelin : Shot)
- Jumps (Standing Long & Triple Jumps, Vertical Jump)
- Agility skills (Speed Bounce : Hi Stepper)
A big advantage of Sportshall training is that it is held indoors during the colder winter months. The club takes part in the Hampshire Sportshall League which has 4 matches throughout the season, the club enters teams in the Under 11 and Under 13 age groups and Under 15 athletes compete as individuals.
Given the restrictions in the number of athletes who can take part in Sportshall, we expect the athletes to compete for the club in the Sportshall competitions.
After Easter, the older athletes who have competed for the club in Sportshall competitions will be given an opportunity to join other WADAC training groups in the spring and summer, such as Distance-Running, Sprints, Jumps, and the Development Group, in priority to other athletes on the waiting-lists. The athletes will then rejoin the Sportshall group in the Autumn and Winter.
Those Athletes who impress at the League matches are selected to compete for the Hampshire Sportshall Team at the Regional matches which take place in Burgess Hill, Sussex.
