Venue- Mountbatten Centre Portsmouth
The third Hampshire Sportshall League match took place at the Mountbatten Centre Portsmouth. Winchester & District Athletic Club (WADAC) young athletes took part but in depleted numbers due to injuries, including a Lacrosse stick to the head, thankfully with no lasting damage, and also victim to the recent bout of illnesses.
However the WADAC under 11 boys were undeterred and won their team event for the first time this season and are 2nd overall with one match remaining. The U11B victory was set up magnificently by the fact that Oscar Webb won the individual event and team-mate Stan Parkinson was 2nd overall. Oscar was a clear winner of the Standing Long Jump with a leap of 2.02m, and there is much more to come from him in this event. Oscar also threw a huge 7.75m in the Chest Push to win that event. Stan went like a rocket in the 1 Lap race to give him the fastest time of the day of 12.1 and was also 2nd fastest in the 3 Lap race. The other team scorers were Sam Nicholson 21st and Thomas Beck 22nd with Thomas gaining a top 10 time place in the 3 Lap race. The quartet of Webb, Parkinson, Nicholson and Beck ran the fastest time in the 4x1 Lap relay. Other WADAC U11B results were, Ben Woodcock 26th, Monty Wyatt 39th and Billy Manning 42nd.
The WADAC under 11 girls were worst hit by illness etc with several of their best athletes unavailable. Best placed was Grace Weeks in 7th position. Grace has improved in all of her events this season and again had a very consistent performance with 5th best positions in the Speed Bounce and 1 Lap. The next best placed U11G for WADAC was Erin McBriar in 26th with her best effort being a 6.00m Chest Push. The next scoring athletes were Talya Wright 37th and Bethany Mballa 51st, The team were 7th having previously having been 3rd in the first two matches, a clear sign that missing athletes affected their team position. Other WADAC U1G Lucy Smith 53rd Beth Newell 55th and Amber Harvey 62nd.
In the under 13 girls section Emma Shedden was first in for ADAC in 10th position, her best event being the 4 Lap race where she earned 5th best time of the day with 51.1. Jasmine Jones was again consistent placing 15th including a good shot put of 6.20m. Kitty Manning was 19th and Lola Clements 23rd to give WADAC 4TH place on the day but remain equal 2nd overall.
Sam Mballa put in his first appearance of the season and preceded to win the under 13 boys Speed Bounce with 75 in 30 seconds and went onto finish a splendid 3rd position. The only other WADAC U13B competitor was Oscar Hoult who was 10th individually and had a good leap of 1.94m in the Standing Long Jump for 4th best jump of the day.
WADAC lost three girls to injury and illness with sole WADAC competitor Sophie Torrance finishing 3rd on the day and excelling in the Speed Bounce with 82 in 30 seconds to win that event. Sophie also had a good shot put of 6.91m
Sam Roberts was the only U15B taking part and he competed with U13B. His highlights were a 83 Speed Bounces in 30 seconds and a 7.82m shot put.
There is one more League match left in March again at the Mountbatten Centre Portsmouth.
