Fri 3rd May 2019
In a close finish Paul Maton won the May Handicap from Adam Mallord, Rob Weekes and Liz Marshall.
We had 17 runners contesting the May handicap including 3 welcome "first of the year" appearances from James Moore, Colin McManus and Lloyd Dickson. Given the heavy race programme there were a number of "tired legs" stories going around - on the evidence of tonight's race we can conclude that marathons take more out of your legs than RR10's!
9 athletes managed to meet or beat their handicap and thrillingly the sweet spot of the blanket finish involved the first 8 finishers. In that close finish Paul Maton was our event winner - Paul's first win at this event - just ahead of Adam Mallord, the fast finishing Rob Weekes and Liz Marshall.
Fastest on the night was James Moore with 6'04, 2nd fastest was the ever-improving Dave Gaskell with a new PB of 6'18 to move up to No.21 on the honours board and 3rd fastest was Rob Weekes also with a new PB, his fine 6'42 puts him up to 54th on our all-time list.
As regards the overall standings it is still early days but Dave Gaskell now leads from Lynn McKeague with Mikaela Price still third with Stephen Lowy up to 4th and Paul Oxley in fifth. The differences are small however and it's all still up for grabs. One thing for sure though is that you have to be in it to win it - it is no coincidence that our top 5 includes the 4 runners who still have a chance of winning a coveted "12 out of 12" medal.
The June 2019 Handicap will be, as ever, on the first Thursday of the month...the 6th June 2019.
Meet at the track 18.45 for 19.00.
All welcome we can make up suitable handicaps for newbies on the night.
